Bishop John Armes with Rev. Andrew Cooper and some members of the St. John’s congregation
After arriving from Gympie Parish, Queensland, Australia, Andrew was formally installed as Priest – in – Charge of St. John’s by Bishop John.
The church was filled with people from the parish, neighbouring churches and those further afield as well as supporting clergy from the Diocese, the Dean, the Bishop’s Chaplain and the Bishop.
With the licensing completed, representatives from St. John’s congregation presented Andrew with a Bible, a stole, oil, bread and wine, together with the keys of the church.
The Eucharist was celebrated and St. John’s Choir, assisted by Ted Ferguson, our Organist, led the hymn singing as well as two anthems, both unaccompanied.
After welcomes from Paul Beck, Lay Chair of St. John’s Vestry (including a letter of greetings from the good folk of Gympie) and from Very Rev. Frances Burberry, Dean, (with gifts of haggis flavoured crisps, shortbread and whiskey) Andrew concluded the service.
Refreshments in the Church Centre afterwards were provided by Liz Kiteley, with Trevor Taylor serving drinks.
